I have filed a bugreport on gtk:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164157

configure says that Pango 1.2.0 is required, but you say that 1.4.1 works
too, therefore Pango 1.2.0 actually isn't required.

It looks like they forgot the message there from GTK+-2.2.x version series.
