gEDA-user: Having trouble with new footprint in PCB

Hello:

I am using geda pcb version 20060422. I am attampting to follow
the documentation at paragraph 8.2, new style libraries.

Subparagraph 8.2.1 step 4 asks you to select a newly drawn line
(I am using lines as I am trying to put together a new smt chip;
a Xylinx type VQFP package) and then 'right click' for a menu.

The problem is that when I right click, I get a little 'hand' which
allows me do drag the entire work under my 'scope' of zoom. I dont
get any menu on right clicking on a selection.

What do I need to do? Is the documentation right, or is there
something missing?
