I just did a quick check, and 1.5.2.2 (which is what I'm using)

I've been trying it out on my own (work related) project.  I can tell
you that for my typical development style -- edit, test, checkin,
edit, test checkin, etc... Just about anything would work for me, even
SCCS! (if you can remember that).  At this point, I probably prefer
Subversion over Git, since I am more familiar with it (having made the
switch from CVS to Subversion about 1.5 years ago).  I'm not sure what
git buys me over anything else, but I don't take advantage of it in
areas where it shines (such as handling branching and merging).

Subversion also handles symbolic links, though for file modes, I think
it only supports the execute bit (but I could be wrong on that).
