Which version of gschem do you have? There was a bug in gschem last  
year that caused some trouble here. The work around when the slot  
changes wouldn't take was to select the recalcitrant component, "ep"  
from the keyboard (or "Update Component" from the Edit menu), and  
then "eS" (or "Slot..").

The bug is fixed in 1.4.
