Ah - so I'm working with old stuff here. I suppose that I haven't been 
paying close enough attention to the list. Time to pull the socks up and 
start learning git.

Yep,
     ./configure --enable-doc=no
got me through the install phase. Who uses the local documentation 
anyway? :)
Now I've got nice alpha images in my photo-mode renders. Thanks for the 
imagemagick script.
