I'm doing the "forward annotation" upgrade at the moment.  Basically,
the *.pcb will know which *.sch contribute to it, and it can invoke
the gsch2pcb equivalent and import all the changes - with one button.

I've got a hardcoded button on one of my projects just to test the
internals, and it's really handy - edit the *.sch and save, press the
button in pcb, continue editing.  No GUI changes yet, though.

Of course, the internals will be built such that other flows can take
advantage of the new functions.
