We are a factor of ten apart in this regard too. I just looked up the 
numbers from official German statistics (http://destatis.de). In 2003 
average income of a household was 42 000 EUR/year before taxes. Average 
net income was 34 000 EUR/year. I'd say, a good in come should be at 
least average...
