My thinking is that alongside the .sch file will be one or more
additional files that collectively record the mapping between symbols,
circuits, components and packages. When gschem sees that file, it has
the information it needs to show actual pin numbers and will
optionally
do so. To achieve that, I bet we end up building some kind of
in-memory
database that we don't have today.
In the lines of the one mans upsmanship....
The extra data need not be a separate file, a table element in the
schematic may meet the needs.
