Re: gEDA-user: alarm clock done!

Er, there's no Linux in my alarm clock. The PIC24F has 64k of flash
and 8k of RAM. The mp3 server runs linux, but any web server will do.
The key to being a good alarm clock, though is being able to control
noise and light pollution - the normal LCD backlight does NOT qualify
unless the backlight can be set to arbitrary brightnesses. The whole
point of using an OLED is that there's no stray light leakage when
it's near-off.
But I suppose ANY smart PDA, cell phone, or tablet could do what this
box does, and for about the same cost.
The most expensive parts?
board - $50
oled - $40
mp3 chip - $17 (less if you shop around)
Speakers - $7 each
NIC - $8
EEPROM - $6
PIC - $6
There were a bunch of parts in the $1-$5 range too.
