Ok, this is a bit less awkward than a a restart of the application. But 
it's still a workaround. I'll file a feature request for a recalculation 
command.

I am already using the latest snapshot (downloaded last monday). Zoom got 
a bit faster, but is still sluggish. I'll look for redundant polygons.

Nice. I had tried transparent polygons with earlier versions of pcb and 
found it not very helpful because I selected the polygons all the time.
Thin polygons are a better solution to the speed problem than regrouping 
layers.
