For starters, try to do everything you can do on the bench with
a real circuit. setting the bias, distortion measurement,
tweaking it in, comparing AC response of top half to bottom
half, effect of component variation, adjusting frequency
compensation for best stability, adjusting thermal compensation
for best thermal stability, ...
Then imagine all the stuff you would like to do but can't do
with a real circuit. .. looking at internal signals, which you
can't on a real circuit because the probe changes it, looking
at parameters like transconductance, with signal, ....
Simulation should give you lots more information than you can
get from a real circuit.
