What I am doing is creating a centroid database for my footprints. I was using
the XY data from PCB as a cross-check as I populate the centroid table.
I may start adding the centroid data into my footprint files
using Attribute("centroid" "(X,Y)") lines.
For some footprints I like to have the mark near the edge. For
example CON_USB_MINI_B__Molex_67503-1020. When using the
USB Mini B I place the mark on the board edge. This insures the
proper amount of overhang. For the centroid I am using the point
between the alignment pins.
