OK. Now it's making sense.

So what we need (I take it) is some way of automating an ftp session. This
*definitely* is possible, but I'm not sure how hard/easy it is. The main
thing we have to worry about is the possibility of the ftp session dying, 
and using reget to continue. It might need a "real program" and not just a
shell script.

Do you think it might be better to just have one large directory (full of
symlinks) that one can just glob, and then have big install script ? This
is definitely "easy".
