Some reasons:

*	The package management is minimal. This makes it harder for the
	users, and the developers. 

*	RPM has become a defacto standard. It it the most widely used
	binary format for linux. Someone who is using a Redhat
	distribution doesn't need to compile anything.

*	Slackware is *not* an end user centered distribution. Their goals
	are orthogonal to ours.

It's important that we don't let our preferences cloud our judgement.
Personally, I'm an openBSD fan, but I am not in a hurry to propose it as a
foundation for a user friendly UNIX.
