Actually I am using a very naive approach to mixing the stuff. Unsigned
data to signed, substract 128, add all sounds, add 128, cut between 0 and
255. But it sounds fairly OK. (I am feeding silence==128 to the soundcard
when no sounds are enqueded for playing.)

I will write something up - but probably not until the weekend.

Linux supports the notion of a command line or a shell for the same reason
that only children read books with only pictures in them. Language, be it
English or something else, is the only tool flexible enough to accomplish a
sufficiently broad range of tasks.
