Status Report

I'm not going to try to touch on everything, so this is just the important
stuff:

External Docs:
	- Improve LDP doc display on web site.  I'm going to allow people
	to set a preference wether they want indexed view or full doc view
	for docs which support that (like the LDP).   This will also help
	the htdig indexer index content correctly.  I'm still working on
	the implimenation on both dev and www for this.  Gawd what I
	wouldn't give for NFS sometimes.

	- Hack download.pm to work better with URI's when lazy people
	don't write the leading ftp:// and http://   Now those links will
	work.  Need to work on this more though.  This quick and simple
	hack of mine is getting bigger/more important.

	- Write scripts for converting LDP SGML to HTML for our use.  Pain 
	in the ass way of doing things, but the only way to do it.  I
	would hang the LDP maintainers by their toes over a bed of
	scorpions if I had the chance for their lack of forethought.

	- Thought a lot about standardizing needs for external docs.  We 
	desperately need something in place to manage these links.
	Things like having a bot find broken external links.  I'm also
	considering giving download.pm DB smarts to not rely on the PHP
	page calling it.  I'd rather not though.  I've also looked into 
	using mod_rewrite to do some of this magic.  If anyone is interested
	in having a dialog with me on this, let me know.

HtDig:
	- Improved digging performance by reducing following "bad" links
	such as those for user logins.

	- Increased size of stored exerps by 10x to give better search
	results

	- Read htdig indexing reports to find bad links and fix where I
	can.

	- Yugami (Marc) sent me another feature patch for htdig, but I
	haven't had a chance to test it out.
		

DevBall:
	- Many minor yet important changes.  This will be made available
	RSN.

	- vodka:/home/linuxkb/bin/linuxkb_dump.sh now dumps the
	linuxkb_dev database for devball use.  All users of the devball
	should do a update_lkb.sh now.  You do not need an updated DevBall
	for this.


DB.PHP.CACHE:
	- Jason has brought to my attention that he is having to edit this
	file on a semi regular basis.  I will resolve that with more
	dynamic code.

	- db_cache.pl now requires the use of the -s arg to set the
	server.  this can be: dev, www, or local.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but oh well...
