CVS: how do I?

Dear CVS gods,

I am working on the devel module (cleaning up and consolodating) and I
want to create a new sub dir "irc".  I've done a 'cvs add irc' on the
server and it has accepted it, but I can't do a 'cvs add irc/*' from my
workstation at home.

How do I add files to a CVS module from a remote machine?
