Upgrade plans

Well,

Here's the plan:

1) I'm not going to upgrade the RH versions on the boxes.  Mostly this is
an issue of time I'd rather spend doing other things (like coding).  It's
also since I'm a big fan of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

2) I will upgrade the kernel on Yukon.  I know of existing bugs in the
2.2.7 kernel we're using which will become problems when we start
experiancing heavier loads.  This should be a rather painless event other
than the reboot required.  I plan to do this Saturday.  I'm going to
assume that anytime is ok, unless someone speaks up and tells me
otherwise.

3) I haven't decided on upgrading Vodka's kernel.  There are a number of
reasons for this:
	- Moving to 2.2.x on a 5.2 system requires certain dependancies to
	be resolved
	- 2.2.x isn't as big of a difference from 2.0.x on single CPU
	systems
	- We're currently using software RAID on this system, and I have
	concerns about the RAID code being incompatible (I'm researching this)
	- The impact on the developers by taking down Vodka is bigger.

The earliest I'd do Vodka is Sunday.

4) I'll let Jason worry about upgrading MySQL.  The security bug recently
discovered in it doesn't apply to us.

5) I will upgrade BIND to the latest version.  Shouldn't have any impact
since we have secondaries.

Anyone have any suggestions of how to backup the systems?  tar?  Yukon has
this nice 12/24GB tape drive.  It might be worthwhile doing sometime.  Any
ideas how to backup Vodka?
