hello, everybody here..

as Aaron Turner sugested, i shall introduce myself to you. but first a few
words about the messages i have read since i was subscribed. (there might
be possible that this things have already been said, but i didn't have
yet time to read the archive)

-first, an ideea it came to me about the mirrors of external information.
i think it is possible to write a script which, after parsing some new
page just downloaded from the original site, to suggest a category to
which it belongs after some key words found in the file. as a simple
example (things are more complex), if a text contains 50 times the word
daemon, 20 times named and so on, it is possible to be something about
configuring the name server. so, if we establish more precise rules (after
studying a number of howtos and articles) we could find some words that
indicate the destination of the document in the kb. tree. it still needs
to be checked by the mirror manager, but if from 100 documents, 30 are
correct located, it still is a good job. and the rules can be updated in
time, after studying why some article was missplaced. in time, it could
become a powerful tool.

-the second one is about patches. in the world are a lot of nice patches
for the kernel, which do not go to the kernel source because the facility
provided is not useful for the majority. for example, here, in my
laboratory, the former netadmin made a patch which allows some programs
like bind, apache, etc. which normaly run as root, to be run as a normal
user from a special group (netgroup) which has the right to bind to
reserved ports. this is great for me, and i have continued to update the
patch for the 2.2. kernels, and i am happy that my www server and named
are not running as root. and there are for sure a lot of patches of this
kind, very useful, but hidden from the public. i think it should be a
place for them in the knowledge base.

now about me:
i am from Bucharest, Romania, student in the 2nd grade at the Computer
Science Dep, at the Politehnica University. I am programming in C/C++ for
10 years, 3 years of perl and 3 of linux. not to bother you to much, i
think this introduction is enough. if you want to find out more, it should
