That's where it get's tricky.

Here's what I'm planning on.  When selecting where an article should be
placed (subject to approval by the powers that be), you will drill down
through the categories and eventually to an article.  I'm determining the
best interface to do this in (maybe u have some ideas).  At any level you
can select to attach the article to all "Applications" below this
category... or drill right down to an individual app within an individual
category and just attach the article to that app in that category.  

If you select to attach the article to all articles below that category,
the article will reference that category ID... not each
application-category ID.  That way, if new apps are added below that
category, the attachment automaticly carries down.

So when you click on a specific app to display all articles referencing
that app, the list retro-searches back up the tree to see all articles
attached to the categories above itself, and displays them as well.
