Got this from Joel this morning. He offered me a system a few weeks ago
before we had the offer from NaviSite and SEUL (I think). Anyways, it's
nothing "great"- a 486DX2 w/ 64MB and about 1GB of disk. I was thinking
however after reading the article on Slashdot that it might make a good
image server for the site, though it's likely that we won't need it.
Besides, if we needed a image server, it sounds like we could use cran at
SEUL.
Anyways, I figured I'd tell him that we don't need it anymore- we seem to
be covered. But if anyone can think of a use for it, let me know. We'd
also need to come up with the $$$ to ship it.

hmm.. ok, lemme see what I have.. Would a DX2/66 work ok? I would
imagine, as long as it had 64mb of RAM you would be ok, huh? :) hmm.. I
only see two problems.. One is that I can't guarantee the machine (hard
drive, motherboard and any mechanical fans) would keep running once it
was put into service. Don't get me wrong, the machines (All of which to
choose from) are running fine in my server rack up here, but were ARE
talking about stuff that I've resurrected from old upgrades, etc.. (I'm
sure you know what I'm talking about..)
My second problem, would be shipping. Am I gonna have to pay for that?
It's certainly not gonna be cheap, unless you have an AT form factor
case, and feel like you wanna put a bunch of parts into it? :) hehe..
Keep me posted, and I'll see what I can do.. BTW, do you have anything
against propriatary systems, like an old Packard Bell? It shouldn't be a
problem, unless you were gonna put lots of expansion cards.
About the NICs, if it doesn''t work out for me to donate a fully booting
machine, I most certainly can let you have (I'll even pay for shipping!)
an ISA 10Base-T NIC. Their SMC 8013WC, based on, you guessed it, the
Western Digital 8013 chipset. These cards are RJ-45. and AUI (No BNC).
Hard drive space: How much of it are we gonna need? Hard drives are the
one thing that I don't just hand out, especially if they're any larger
than 2.1gb :) Do you think you could get by with two or three 540mb,
etc? (Might make fault tolerance a little easier, to have the data
spread around, and even swap files, and different parts of a frequently
accessed database?)
