should clarify the hardware that I'm using here. You guys are welcome
to use either cran or belegost (cran is more easily set up for dev work --
the only time I notice that it's CPU isn't P6-quality is in gzip -9 and
similar, but belegost will beat most machines at most activities. :)

Belegost would be the backup plan in case the other machines fall through --
I've got 1.5gigs free currently, and spend most of my time near 0.0 loadavg.
The link at mit is probably one of the most stable/solid you'll find in the
world.

But for short-term dev work among a small group of people, convenience is
far more important than 'cool machine'. Cran will do it fine, as will your
P100.

As for root on the seul machines, 3 people have root on cran, and only I have
root on belegost. So far, for dev machines that are 'important', most people
who are both clueful and reliable can be given root, "just in case". Note
that I'm defining 'clueful' pretty restrictively there. :) It is not so much
a matter of restricting information as a matter of maintaining availability.
This works better if the responsibility is more spreadout.
