 AFIACT, pkg-config plus the LIBS/CFLAGS options have already solved this
 problem.  Adding multiple interfaces for the same thing doesn't
 necessarily make the program any better.

 But if you want to add syntactic sugar, I'd suggest just treading "--with-
 foo-dir=X" as "Set foo_LIBS to -LX/lib  and foo_INCLUDE -IX/include".  If
 you want any behavior more complicated than that, use the LIBS/CFLAGS
 arguments.
