Comment:

 You're right, compression is currently turned off in
 `/etc/tomcat6/server.xml`.  I vaguely recall that we did that because of
 problems with the metrics website (which is served by the same Tomcat
 instance).

 We're going to move Onionoo to new hardware very soon.  Let's try again to
 turn on compression then.  And if we run into problems, let's make a plan
 B.  Leaving this ticket open until then.
