Comment:

 This seems simple enough to backport, but we have no way of noticing if it
 breaks, because we have no Windows CI on 0.2.9.

 It's also worth noting that the Windows CI that we have in 0.3.4 and later
 doesn't run traffic through sockets.

 Closing as "no backport".
