BTW, if you'd like submit this patch for inclusion in 0.2.6, you might
want to open a new ticket for it. It doesn't seem completely subsumed
by #3521 to me. At first glance, the basic idea seems plausible,
though I haven't looked at the code too closely.
(My workflow ensures that eventually we should get around to every
patch with an open ticket against a release, but it's not very good at
capturing things from tor-dev.)
