Hi,

I'm trying to understand what the current state of Happy Family support is in c-tor.

According to the spec the Happy Family design supports bridges as well:
https://spec.torproject.org/proposals/321-happy-families.html#a-note-on-bridges

but there is some contradicting information in
https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/issues/40935

Can you share some insights whether c-tor implements the Happy Family spec for bridges?

I'm primarily asking in the context of
"Does the bridge descriptor contain the family ID if the operator configured Happy Family on a bridge?"

Hi,

Currently the bridge authority (https://metrics.torproject.org/rs.html#details/BA44A889E64B93FAA2B114E02C2A279A8555C533) doesn't issue a family ID for bridges. For relays, it's the directory authorities that verify the family cert and issue the family ID.

Support for family IDs on bridges isn't something we'll get to in the near term, but it's definitely something we have on our radar.

Cheers,

From what we see, it looks like c-tor does not support Happy Family for bridges
or collector or onionoo does not support it for bridges.
Example:
https://onionoo.torproject.org/details?lookup=D29BAD033529C42F9E700752CF59B7DB816CA039

thanks,
