[tor-talk] Tor-to-web gateway name registration
Would it be possible for webmasters to register their hidden services
with gateways like onion.to or Tor2web in such a way that instead of
having to deal with addresses like salmagundi487345.onion.to, they could
receive a shorter name like mycoolblog.onion.to which would then
redirect to the longer hidden-service address?
Perhaps this has already been considered/discarded/implemented without
my realizing. It might mean a greater level of work than the gateway
operators want to take on, and many webmasters may not want to
communicate with gateways in this fashion, but it could be useful to
people who want to distribute a memorable address for their site while
retaining the benefits of a hidden service (e.g. not having to register
an actual domain name with the attendant whois woes, server location
withheld).
Am I missing something? Would this violate the 'pure proxy' principle
currently claimed by these gateway services?
