hi,for the sake of improved performance compared to gcc I use to compile the openssl lib as well as the tor application with Intel's C compiler icc. Unlike gcc compiling tor very smoothly icc throws a lot of compiler warnings. You may find my configure script and make output here: http://torstatus.blutmagie.de/icc-compile.html
