No, this is not possible. To "do the work of SSL",
you need a destination that supports encryption,
and unfortunately many still don't support that.

Tor cannot magically force those people (for
example, youtube) to support encryption.

All that said, as long as you're using hidden
services, all your traffic is encrypted end to end,
and you do not need to worry about SSL.
Unfortunately, most content isn't in .onion land,
though; so that's not really practical.
