This implies that tor is running at debug log level. Unless you have a
very fast CPU and graphics card, Vidalia's Message Log isn't going to
keep up.
Optimally, you should remove your customized Tor config and simply let
Vidalia do all of the configuration for tor. It sounds like you
already set or disabled control port authentication, which is why
vidalia can't set one. The Vidalia configuration window for the
password defaults to "randomly generate", which is generally fine for
securing the control port.
