The most annoying result is that you lose your custom pref settings, due to https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/3944. I find this annoying because I actually like having local TBB browsing history. On the plus side, any custom Firefox extensions you have in your TBB do stay active after updating this way (though the usual caveat about choosing your extensions carefully to avoid leaks and fingerprinting applies). -- Mike Perry
