How are you trying to run them ?
I have not had alot of success with the "open with python" right click thing.. (but that's me, yours might work fine)
I usually just open a terminal, navigate to the directory containing the program and type ..>  python myprogram.py

Alright, I found the package and installed it but for some reason none of the python programs I wrote will run on Ubuntu.  They run perfectly fine on windows.  I already have Python 2.5 installed on Ubuntu.
