[pygame] current status

oky, thought i'd give everyone an update. as well as open a
door for some communication.

it sounds like sam is putting SDL-1.1.7 tomorrow wherever it is.
after that will be a couple weeks (the guess is around 3) until
that is promoted into SDL-1.2 and that becomes the stable SDL
release. (after that the SDL-1.3 branch will begin. that will
start with some big changes, but not worried about that now)

right after the emminent SDL release i will put out pygame-0.5.
at this point the core modules are covering everything needed
and the api has been locked down. after 0.5 pygame will be jumping
to version 0.9 and the 1.0 release should follow shortly after.
(i expect the 1.0 release to hit a week or two after SDL-1.2)

i do want to get version 0.5 out. it will help keep the
windows-side better synched with sdl-1.7. i'm also pretty sure
the 'creeping lockup' problem has been taken care of. today i
just checked some massive changes to the surfarray module. i'm
afraid to say i'm a little emberrassed at the previous array3d()
and array2d() functions; they didn't work at all (with many chances
to just crash on you). i've also made another round at updating
the config.py scripts so getting pygame compiled and installed
should be a lot more automated (especially on the unix side)

i'm wide open for ideas on what should be included for the 1.0
release. the only thing i'm really looking at is adding some of
the cursor ideas that have been going around.
(some other small tweaks here and there)

once 1.0 is out i'll take the 'propaganda' machine up a notch.
at that point the core modules should really only see changes to
keep them fresh with SDL (along with any good ideas that roll along).
then there will be a lot more focus on the optional modules out
there. i can think of a solid handful of ideas that would be great,
but doubt i will ever get to them all.

anyways, just keeping folks abreast at whats going on. keep an eye
out for the 0.5 release right around the corner. after that be thinking
about the approaching 1.0 release. i'd like pygame to be as polished
as can be.

all we need now is someone to come up with the 'killer app' for
pygame. then it's likely many eyes will be looking into pygame :]
