sorry jan, not with the 0.5 package. the version module was added
just after 0.5 was released. when in doubt, consult the all-knowing
WhatsNew file   :]

i aim to make sure this file is always up to date, and so far it
hasn't been a problem keeping it up to date. 

to me it feels like forever since 0.5 was released. :]
the next pygame release will be hot on the heels of SDL-1.2
SDL-1.2 will become the official "stable" release, moving
it up from way back in the days of SDL-1.0.8
