and with a much bigger experience in gaming API maybe... the chap who did
that was already making his big bucks on the Amiga platform (well renown
for its prowess (i would not here explain how it was possible to display
32000 colors
on a 2 bitplan screen :))

So the original blitzbasic contained a huge amount of assembly hard coded
stuff
and lots of high level assembly objects like sprite bobs, multi parallax
plan

SDL is a very remote abstraction that does not let you access to optimized
sprite/bobs/
plan API... and hence pygame

but it just means that we have to work on that ;)
