[pygame] keyboard refresh

Hey
I'm using pygeme 1.0 and have a few problems with pygame.key.set_repeat
my code is 

pygame.key.set_repeat([500,30])

and python says 

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "jewel.py", line 67, in ?
    pygame.key.set_repeat([500,30])
TypeError: an integer is required

anyway what is the meaning of delay and interval, how do I have to set them 
if i want a low refresh-rate (to get useful keyboard input for menues etc.)
