Keep working through the tutorial, but you might also just start your own project in pygame on the side.  You can learn the intricacies of the language while working on a real program.  That's the best way to learn in my opinion.  If you only take the hands-on approach you can miss important details, and if you only take the studious approach than you won't have a clue how to actually use any of the stuff you are learning :)
