[school-discuss] A new legal organization to support Open Source in education

FREE TO PUBLISH

We have formed a legal organization called "Libre and Open Source in
Education", that supports, educates and promotes Open Source in education
here in Finland.

The organization was established by the following people at the biggest
finnish eLearning conference, ITK '02 on thursday April, 18:

Teemu Arina, Project Manager of MimerDesk project / Ionstream Ltd
Teemu Leinonen, Project Manager of FLE3 project / ITCOLE / Media Lab,
University of Art and Design Helsinki
Dr. Johan Silén, Geophysics Research, Finnish Meterological Institute
Christian Lupander, in charge of the development of all network based
services for K-12, Espoo Section of Education and Culture
Antti Ellonen, coordinator of Virtual University project, University of
Jyväskylä, School of Business and Economics

Our objective is mainly to share the ideology of Open Source and the
philosophy of freely available information in todays' information society.
This applies not only in software but content as well. All information wants
to be free. The results and products of the past generations should be freely
available for all people today.

We believe that the change to better starts from the schools, where the
information has been shared and processed for decades. We encourage all
SchoolForge members and other people to form similar legal organizations to
support SchoolForge movement in their own countries.

Best regards,

Teemu Arina
