[school-discuss] For the Lonliness of the Solo Coder: A Little Advice




Dear Colleagues:

Patrick Bryant is a Ph.D. candidate in English and his specialty is the poetry
of Emily Dickenson. But he seems to have taken Whitman's call to "make it new"
to a new extreme: his dissertation is an open source, interactive
database-concordance of all of Dickenson's poems and letters. Holy 
epistolaries,
Batman! What's more, he's building the software himself. Not surprizingly, he's
begun to feel something in common with the subject of his study, at least for
the hours of solo time in intellectual endeavor. As a result, he has some
excellent advice for fellow (young and old) software (and other) writers. Read
