there is also a linux emulation mode in freebsd that is an optional
install, including several libraries, etc. but your best strategy for
freebsd is just to use the ports system, it contains most of the best
of breed software for unix systems. if there is a specific application
you have a question about, feel free to ask or check www.freebsd.org
