Re: [school-discuss] Re: [IIEP] When FOSS isn't F....

A lot of people are not in KL and many have a slow dialup.

In Pakistan for example people are not as aware and it takes weeks to download a distribution.

Sometimes the MD5 does not match and we need to restart the Download.

Suse 9.2 is only one 3.6 GB DVD.

If we use a DSL then we also need a software (which we are working on) which downloads faster on offpeak usage times.

Most of the CDs available in the Market are those which we Linux enthusiasts provide the CD duplication industry.

Most of the Duplicators do not know how to check or care for MD5 sums of their CDs.

Pushing Linux is NOT an easy task in emerging markets like PK. We know because we have been doing it for more than a decade.

Any format anywhere helps.

As a tip. Provide the Mandrake Move and Other live CDs. They sell and spread better. However be more careful of the quality of your checking in this product.

It's for real, and while Michael Robertson, Linspire has discussed this
on our dev@marketing list, OOoFf! was better explained on the
events@marketing list, see:

and click "Browse this thread".

Michael has succintly explained OOoFf! here:

If you follow the discussion, it is targeted at people who are more
familiar with obtaining a boxed retail product.

If the packaging assists people to purchase a product they would not
normally see to buy, i.e. open source software, then it is a good thing.
Also, it is "free" as in freedom, not "free" as in beer :)
