This year I have put the school calendar on Moodle. Moodle is essentially a
VLE / CMS rather than a specific groupware calendar but I still think it is
something you could explore.
This thing I like about the moodle calendar is you can have global events
(1/2 term), course specific events and personal events (students can enter
their birthdays or whatever and nobody else sees them. If you want, say,
teacher specific events then just create a teacher course and enrol or your
teachers in it.
It supports LDAP.
