Re: [school-discuss] Dyslexic children - thanks

Wow. Great information from sites I have never heard of before. Wow.

The focus of our work involves modifying the EeePC (or netbooks in general) to
be useful tools for dyslexic kids. We purchased an EeePC/linux version for our
10 yr old last Winter and that already has many features we are looking for -
  * audio books and audio textbooks
  * text-to-speech on web browsing
  * typing tutor (needs ktouch though)
  * voice recognition
  * Tux Paint
  * Word processing
  * Skype

Once the software has been tweaked, then we work with the kids and their
teachers to develop useful procedures. A parent group is important. In our
case, our children would never have been diagnosed had we not taken them for
testing ourselves.

Phase II would involve dyslexic friendly coursework and the
highschoolcourseexchange.org idea.

Thank you so very much!!!

Marilyn
