Larry, There are many possibilities for this instance. You really don’t need a super fast machine especially in K-5. Any computer with a basic video card, sound card and a 300mhz cpu would be plenty in this instance. You could even go a little smaller. A lot of the graphical educational games do work a little better on a little more processing power though which is why I would suggest (if you are trying to go on the smaller budget) around 300mhz or faster. I'm researching the possibility of Linux for our local school (K-5) and/or library. I'm aware of LTSP and that would definitely have advantages for a larger number of workstations. But I am thinking, at least intially, we will just have one or two linux workstations coexisting with the existing resources. Is there a preferred distribution for a standalone workstation in a school or library setting? What are the hardware requirements? Any help appreciated.
