Re: [school-discuss] Open Source for America

I have done the "tell the school board the cost savings" routine and discovered the issue is they will almost always defer to the mindset of the IT dept of the school districts.

The folks that manage IT for schools have a lot to do and need change as much as they need another reduction in funding.

What will happen, in the minds of the it dept, is a change in software will cost more resources because people need to learn new stuff.  What they don't see is the change is transitional and will be short lived, but the resistance by staff will be high.

Find a way of conveying the cost over 2 or three years rather than immediate savings and the message is likely to have a better chance.

I believe this is one area where SchoolForge could collaborate with Open Source for America:

http://opensourceforamerica.org/

I don't yet see SchoolForge listed on OSFA's list of Organizational Members:

http://opensourceforamerica.org/organizational-members/

Something to think about.
