I hope that what happened to WordPerfect when Novell bought it
doesn't happen to SUSE.

paul

looks like Novell is finally getting its act together.

after years of languishing in its cash horde from NetWare sales, it finally decided on a viable plan for the future.

first it bought Ximian, a really great linux software company with a fantastic desktop PIM application, namely Evolution. Now it bought one of the better Linux distro.

things are looking up. :-)
From a strategic point of view, the new CEO Jack Messman has completely changed the direction of Novell and the culture.

But, one has to give some credit to Eric Schmidt (of Sun Java fame) for coming over from Sun and implementing Novell version 5 with TCPIP. Schmidt also put Novell into the Open Source world and now runs Google.

You might have noticed that Open LDAP has benefited from Novell's support, code contributions and development.

Any reference to WordPerfect has to go back to the Ray Norda era when he ran the company. Also, remember Norda is the founder of the current SCO and it's his money that pays the bills on SCO's lawsuits and threats.

Norda no longer has anything to do with Novell. We need to flush the cache on Novell and recognize what they've done even prior to any acquisitions.
