ae in an xterm with xdm

ae seems to work just fine in the console terminal,
is very small for the install, and is very 
configurable. I am having trouble getting some
of the keys to work correctly while using it
from an xterm. I have a fairly stock
debian 1.3.1 running xdm.
I've been reading the docs and am
thuroughly confused. Could a keyboard
expert exchange some email with me on
the subject if this is not a topic for
this list. -Jeff
