[seul-edu] Assisting LUGs in school Linux installs
We've seen numerous posts about developing "flying squads" of Linux
people to descend o accepting schools and help them do a rapid,
orderly transition to Linux. Most people realize that this would be
best done under the coordination of a local LUG, as it would be very
difficult to pull it all together without some local liaison in the
initial planning stages.
We've talked about something similar over the years: developing
documentation and other support material to help LUGs accomplish
such a task. It seems to me that the time for moving on that idea
may have come. I know that some folks on these lists are active in
their local LUGs. Tell us about what you've done with your local
schools, what's worked and what hasn't. Tell us about what kind of
materials you think would help you in working with the schools.
As well, there are teachers and other folks associated with their
local schools on these lists. Tell us what your experience has been
with your local LUGs. Tell us what was most helpful, and where you
would like more help. Tell us what the LUGs can do to be more
useful to you in getting open resources into your school.
For the rest of us, let's read the numerous, voluminous responses
to this message ( :-) ) closely and identify common themes and
ideas. Once we have done so, let's take on the tasks of addressing
the needs identified and getting whatever we develop out to the
people who need it. It's time to move!
