Hi,
I've been mulling over the problem quite a bit about how to break the 
strangle hold of proprietary apps and OSs in our schools. And hanging out at
http://teachers.net/mentors/software/
I try to evangelize a bit there all the time...teachers.net in general 
is a pretty crappy interface but there are A LOT of people posting 
there, so a bit of evangelizing from those in know (us) to those who 
don't know (them) could stir the pot of Open Source/Linux  interest a bit.

I find that most teachers have no idea what the heck Open Source means 
or what Linux is, not too mention the importance of an operating system.

re: The problem of getting machines into the class-
I believe it is a question of time, money and organization (isn't 
everything?) so I'm banging away at what I'll call a grant writer front 
end (kind of a boiler plate) for grants. Let me work on it a bit and 
I'll get back to the group.
